Benton sweeps WD
Western Dubuque's baseball team dropped a doubleheader last week to Benton Community.

On July 8, WD traveled to Van Horne and lost, 2-1 and 5-4. "We played very, very good baseball and had solid defense. We just made a couple mistakes that hurt us really bad in each game. "We have a lot of kids with talent, who haven't quite figured out how to win yet."

In the first game, Jon Brown, Doug Oberbroeckling and Tyler Ernzen all batted 2-for-3 for WD. Oberbroeckling hit a double. Both Oberbroeckling and Ernzen had triples.

Matt Kass pitched the loss. He struck out three and allowed no earned runs on five hits.

Western Dubuque battled in the second game, before losing, 5-4, in nine innings.

Cody Reimer batted 3-for-5 to lead WD. Both Nick Tuttle and Kass were 2-for-4. Brown and Kass each hit one double.

Miles Langel pitched eight innings. He struck out seven and allowed three earned runs on seven hits.

Tuttle pitched the loss in relief. In 1/3 innings, he allowed one earned run.
