Wildcats, Vikings earn TRC honors
Five area players were honored by the coaches of the Tri-Rivers Conference with inclusion on this year's all-conference softball squad.

Maquoketa Valley's Allie Funke earned first-team honors at utility. Teammates Rachel Hoeger was a second-team selection in the outfield and Hannah Huber was honorable mention. Edgewood-Colesburg's Nikki Niehaus was a second-team honoree at pitcher. Salina Basten earned honorable mention honors. The complete team follows.

First team: pitchers - Karlee Markley (Springville) and Jacqueline Naeve (Alburnett); catcher - Amber Meyer (Cascade); first base - Cortney Wood (Alburnett); infield - Abbie Neff (Springville), Katie Wyman (Springville) and Shelbie Beatty (East Buchanan); outfield - Bailey Bone (Monticello), Danielle Schlotterbeck (Central City) and Audrey Sperfslage (North Linn); utility -Funke (Maquoketa Valley) and Meghan Simmons (Central City); coach the year - Beau Zaruba (Springville).

Second team: pitchers -Niehaus (Edgewood-Colesburg) and Taylor Daubenberger (East Buchanan); catcher - Nicole Simmons (Monticello); first base - Maggie Ray (Springville); infield - Becky O'Neill (Alburnett), Alexandra Doyl (North Linn) and Maddy Otdoerfer (Starmont); outfield - Brianna Matthias (Central City), Jordan Aitchison (Monticello) and Hoeger (Maquoketa Valley); utility - Kylie Siddell (North Linn).

Honorable mention: Shelby Matus (Alburnett), Melissa Huff (Cascade), Kellie Montour (Central City), Chelsi Stanford (East Buchanan), Basten (Edgewood-Colesburg), Huber (Maquoketa Valley), Taylor Oswald (Monticello), Shannon Waring (North Linn), Jamie Donaldson (Springville) and Chelsey Koch (Starmont).
