The Reds had a big night offensively, combining for 23 hits, despite missing four of their regulars from their starting lineup. Roamn Hummel, Tim Andrews, Tom Andrews and Bryan Trumm were all missing because of other obligations, but Cascade was up to the task.
"It was nice to have some other guys step up and get some production and overcome their absence," Pat Weber, Cascade pitcher said. "We were due to have an offensive breakout, we knew it was coming, fortunately we saved it for the championship game when we needed it the most."
Weber pitched the win for the Reds in an exciting contest with plenty of runs and plenty of hits.
"We played pretty well, obviously we scored a lot of runs and had a lot of hits," Weber said. "They gave me a lot of run support and that made my job easier. All I had to do was pitch and throw strikes."
Ben Kuebel batted 5-for-6 to lead the Reds. Drake Austin and Calvin Rea were both 4-for-5. Cody Strang was 3-for-5 with a home run. Josh McQuillen batted 2-for-4 and Micah Green was 2-for-5. The Reds are hoping this big win will help propel them into success this week at their own semi-pro tournament.
"Looking back, when we have had our great years as a semi-pro team, it comes down to if we can win a tournament or two before our own," Weber said. "It really springboards us to have a great year. We have the momentum, we have won 11 years in a row, so hopefully we will get to championship night again and have success."
Balltown had 12 hits including a home run by Jason Brown. Bobby Bean was 2-for-4 at the plate. Ben Urban, Andy Ehrlich and Kyle Soeder were all 2-for-5.
Cascade's Calvin Rea was the tournament's Most Valuable Player. He went 6-for-13 in the tournament with two doubles, four runs scored and five RBIs.
Balltown's Dave Schenk earned the tournament's outstanding pitcher award. He was 2-0 in two games, during which he struck out 24 and allowed just four hits.
Rickardsville defeated Key West, 13-0, in the consolation game. Ryan Mabe pitched the win for Rickardsville. Nathan Hall led Rickardsville at the plate, bating 2-for-2. Tim Schmitt, Tony Potts and Eric Banwarth were all 2-for-3. Mike Brehm was 2-for-4.
