"After 14 years, my passion (for the sport) has worn away," Lehman said. "It's not fair to the kids if I am not competing as well as I can."
He also said that the size and geography of the WaMaC conference played a part in his decision.
"When you go to a game and get off the field at 9:30 p.m. and then have a two hour bus ride home and then still have to do stats, it wears on you," Lehman said. "I get up at 4 a.m. and have to go to work every day. The older you get, you can't quite handle that lifestyle."
During his tenure as head coach, Lehman accumulated a record of 160-209 and guided the Bobcats to their first state softball tournament in 2008. That season, the Bobcats earned a record of 33-11 and tied for fifth place at state.
The highlights to his coaching career center around that state tournament season.
"Naturally, being named coach of the year in 2008 when we went to the state tournament are things you don't forget," Lehman said. Lehman was appreciative of all of the people that he has had the chance to work around.
"The parents and people of Western Dubuque have been wonderful to me," he said.
