With an expanded office and a second dentist on site, it’s safe to say the Farley Dental Center is off to a successful start.
A ribbon cutting May 8 christened the addition that Drs. Ryan and Melanie Stuntz call home.
Ryan Stuntz had been in the north third of the building that also housed Farley City offices since 2005. An opportunity to purchase the rest of the building has resulted in an expanded dentist office that now has eight operatories and room for a ninth one in the future. Before the expansion, the practice had four operatories.
Ryan Stuntz said the expansion was needed. “We were really busy, which is a positive thing and needed the space. I needed help and fortunately, I had a partner I could count on right away.”
That partner was his wife, Melanie Stuntz, who began at the practice in March.
“I had been in practice the last 12 years somewhere else,” she explained. “Before I could join, we needed to renovate the south half of the building, re-equip the previous reception area into my operatories and touch up Ryan’s existing operatories so everything matched.”
Opened as Farley State Bank in 1918, the building saw additions in the 1960s and 1970s before Dubuque Bank and Trust purchased it. They were in it until 2002 when the city of Farley bought the building.
“We tried to make the building look as close to what it did originally while still being functional for our needs,” said Melanie Stuntz.
According to Ryan Stuntz, that attention to detail has been a hit with the practice’s patients.
“The feedback from our patients has been really positive. They’ve enjoyed the renovated building, restoring the history to the building. They also like having another dentist here. It’s easier to get people in.”
The couple are appreciative of the support they received.
“We had a ton of community support,” Ryan Stuntz said. “It’s why we were able to expand. We thank the city for working with us, all of the contractors and all of our patients who supported us.”
