Edward James Oberbroeckling, 80, of Rochester, Minn. formerly of Epworth, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 at Rochester West Health Services in Rochester, Minn. surrounded by his family.

Friends and relatives of Ed called from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, where a prayer service was held at 8 p.m. Friends also called after 9 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ed will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Epworth, with the Rev. Michael Schueller presiding. Lector will be Laurie Randecker. Eucharistic Ministers will be Bill and Lynn Reichel. Placing of the Pall will be done by Janet Oberbroeckling, Debra Coy and Steve Oberbroeckling. Giftbearers will be Shane Coy and Jordan Coy. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Doug Pfab, Terry Noonan, Pat Noonan, Dennis Noonan, Terry Reichel and Jeff Reichel.

Ed was born June 29, 1938 in Epworth, son of William and Catherine (Pottebaum) Oberbroeckling. He graduated from Epworth High School. On Sept. 18, 1965 he was united in marriage to Janet Reichel at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Army. He farmed on his family farm in rural Epworth until his retirement in 2001.

He was a member of the St. Patrick Parish in Epworth.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Oberbroeckling, of Rochester, Minn.; two children, Debra (Brian) Coy, of Byron, Minn. and Steve (Stephanie) Oberbroeckling, of Battle Creek, Mich.; five grandchildren, Shane and Jordan Coy, Mitchell, Blake and Randall Oberbroeckling; three sisters, Sr. Lucilla Oberbroeckling OSF, of Mount St. Francis, Dubuque, Rosemary Noonan, of Bernard, and Virginia Pfab, of Dubuque; one brother-in-law, William (Lynn) Reichel, of Dubuque.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William J. (Rita) Oberbroeckling; two sisters, Marcella Oberbroeckling and Verna Oberbroeckling; two brothers-in-law, Harlan Noonan and Leo Pfab.
