The Almost Famous competition dance team received high marks at the Inferno Dance Competition in Cedar Rapids April 26-28 at the Paramount Theatre. They were truly on fire at their last regional dance competition.
Highlighting the competition, was Almost Famous earning the Studio on Fire Award. The award is presented to the team that has be best artistry, most well-rounded students and best sportsmanship.
The team earned two choreography awards, one for Leah Krantz’s solo “Always on my Mind” and the other for a junior group dance “Praying.” The routines were choreographed by Amanda Hackney and Kaitlyn Hunt. Almost Famous also received several Judge’s Choice Awards.
The Iowa Grown production routine finished first overall.
The Junior team placed first in lyrical, second in jazz and third in contemporary. The Mini team placed third overall.
In the teen category: Intermediate Large Group placed first in jazz, third in contemporary and fourth in lyrical; Elite Small group placed second in lyrical and third in jazz; Elite Large Group placed first in musical theatre.
The Senior Elite Large Group placed first in lyrical, while the Senior Elite Small Group finished first in the open category and fifth and ninth in jazz.
Solo award winners were: first — Nicole Smith, Anisa Krouse and Annie Schlarmann; second — Krantz, Ally Bartachek and Kyla Ramler; third — Kaitlyn Guyer, Tessa Intorf and Madison Ward; fourth — Sydney Freeze, Sadie Erion and Kelsey Adams; fifth — Kirstyn Miller and Kendra Davis; sixth — Allie Riches and Leah Smith; seventh — Brady Theisen and Myra Wilson; eighth — Cameron Vargason and Addie Feldmann; ninth — Haley Hansen, Seneca Freeze and Claire Tuetken; 10th — Megan Smith, Emma Brichton and Morgan Ward; 11th — Grace Harms; and 13th — Jessica Smock.
Duet award winners were: first — Hurt Somebody; second — Another One Bites the Dust and Rain.
Almost Famous is under the direction of Hackney and Melissa Ehrisman, with the assistance of Andrea Davis and Hunt.
The team is now gearing up for the Midwest Starz national competition in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., in June.
