First step: easily accomplished as the Beckman girls soccer team took a Mercy-rule decision, 10-0, in the first half of its Region 7 quarterfinal game May 28 against Monticello.

The Blazers scored fast and easily against the Panthers, basically ending the game with 4:04 left to go in the first half. Rules demanded they finish that half before sending the teams home.

Ashley Engelken scored four times and six other Blazers notched a goal — Kennedy Arens, Tara Hansel, Olivia Hogan, Isabelle Kluesner, Paige McDermott and Jadyn Welling.

Coach Greg Keegan said, “This game was moved up to 5 p.m. from 6 p.m. with a thunderstorm on the horizon. I told the girls that we most likely would not get all the game in so the score at the half could be the final score. I was motivating them to work quick and they responded.”

Recording shots in the game were Engelken with 10, including the first and last goals, (nine on goal), McDermott five (three), Sydney Arens three (two), Kluesner two (two) Tara Hansel, Kennedy Arens and Jadyn Welling two (one), Olivia Hogan and Olivia Pirc one (one).

Monticello rarely even entered the offensive section of the field so Haley LeGrand recorded no saves.
