In one of two WaMaC double bills scheduled for the Beckman softball team last week, the Blazers eased to two wins over Maquoketa there June 3.

Beckman ended the first game early with a 14-1 decision in six innings. Up 4-1 after two, they needed no more but added three in the fourth, two in the fifth and ended the torture with five in the sixth.

Sydney Steffen got the win, scattering four hits for that one run, and striking out four batters.

The Blazers exploded for 20 hits in the game. Heather Boeckenstedt was 5-for-5 with five runs scored, a home run and four RBIs. Kiersten Schmitt was 3-for-4 with a double. Shea Steffen and Keeley Schmitt 2-for-3, Nell McDermott 2-for-4, with Sydney Steffen, Kamryn Klas, Emily Wulfekuhle, Isabell Kruse, Kaylee Ludwig and Jami Kruse all adding a hit. Kiersten Schmitt, Sydney Steffen, Klas and Wulfekuhle all notched two RBIs, McDermott and Jami Kruse one.

In game two, the Blazers made two runs in the second inning hold up for the duration, behind Steffen’s two-hit pitching. She fanned eight batters.

Her teammates could only get five hits in this one, two from Boeckenstedt, and one from Wulfekuhle, Shea Steffen and Jami Kruse.

The other double bill was scheduled with Vinton-Shellsburg at home, but was forced to be re-scheduled when referees did not show. The new date for those games is June 13.

The Blazers also faced off with Williamsburg June 6 and split, winning the opener 6-2 and falling in a squeaker late, 2-1. Statistical information was not made available by press time.

The Blazers stand at 7-5 on the season.
