Beckman softball

Beckman’s 2019 varsity softball team: front from left, Jami Kruse, Mia Maiers, Kiersten Schmitt, Kamryn Klas, Lauren Osterhaus, Kaylee Ludwig and Shea Steffen; second row, Kailey Koopmann, Emily Wulfekuhle, Jadyn Welling, Sydney Steffen, Heather Boeckenstedt, Nell McDermott and Keeley Schmitt.

Returning two key senior stars, the Beckman girls are looking for a solid season, maybe even an outstanding one.

Back for their final go-around are seniors Sydney Steffen and Heather Boeckenstedt. Both earned first-team all-conference honors last year as well as all-district. They hold down key positions as well: Steffen is the leading pitcher and Boeckenstedt covers short.

The seniors will helm a young team again but one that has experience at the varsity level. Sophomores Jadyn Welling, Nell McDermott and Keeley Schmitt return as does freshman Kamryn Klas. Welling and Klas were both honorable mention players in the conference last season.

Fourth-year coach Ryan Meissner will welcome some newcomers in junior Emily Wulfekuhle, sophomore Kailey Koopmann, freshmen Jami Kruse and Isabell Kruse and eighth graders Shea Steffen and Mia Maiers.

He looks for the WaMaC to be strong again as well. “West Delaware, Solon, Mount Vernon, DeWitt and Marion all return a lot of talented players used to being successful. We will have our hands full again this season. I would not make a prediction about our finish but rather hope we improve each day so we are prepared for the end of the season.

“Our solid core of returning players is willing to compete each and every day. Our two seniors will lead us in looking for a solid season,” he concluded.
