Playing at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo June 8, the Beckman baseball team split its games.

The Blazers fell to Class 1A second-ranked Don Bosco, 4-2, and then annihilated Lisbon ,13-0.

Beckman jumped on the Lions early, scoring five runs in each of the first two innings and closing the game early with a three-run fourth.

Eleven hits and six walks turned into the winning margin for the Blazers who took advantage of six stolen bases as well.

Racking up those hits were Sean Kluesner (two doubles) and Owen Huehnergarth(double) who were 2-for-2, Brock Marbach 2-for-3 (double) and Luke Goedken 2-for-4. Adding hits were Shawn Deutmeyer and Seamus O’Connor (both doubles) and Carter Petsche. Huehnergarth earned three RBIs, Goedken, O’Connor and Marbach two, Deutmeyer, Kluesner and Riley Fangman one.

Trent Koelker got the win on the mound, going two innings. Bryce Boekholder closed the final three innings, gave up three hits and fanned four.

Things didn’t go as easily in the game against the Dons. The Blazers took the early lead, 1-0 in the third, but Don Bosco exploded in the fourth for all four runs. Just five hits tripped off the Blazer bats, two each from Grover and Goedken. Stelken added the other.

Grover also took the loss in 3 1/3 innings (87), giving up six hits, four runs, fanning six, walking four. Stelken closed it out in 3 2/3 innings (59), scattering two hits and striking out six.
