At the 92nd annual Eastern Iowa Golf Association Tournament Aug. 10-11 at West Liberty, the Dyersville Golf & Country Club team finished fourth.
Winning the event was the always strong Solon team, with a 1,513 total, 12 strokes in front of runner-up Monticello at 1,525. Third was Mount Vernon 1,545, followed by DGCC 1,554, West Liberty, Anamosa, Bellevue, Tipton and Durant. The Dyersville contingent got off to a bad start Saturday morning. Their 404 placed them eighth and called for a climb the rest of the weekend. They moved to seventh after the second round Saturday, (387) to fifth after the first round Sunday (375) and ended fourth (388).
Dyersville’s Chance Maiers placed fourth overall with a 73-72=145, just three strokes behind medalist Dustin Hall, of Monticello (142). Runner-up was Josh Downham, of Solon (143), and third went to Randy Miller, of Solon (144). In fifth was Jeff Crow, of Mount Vernon (146), followed by Monticello’s Kevin Goedken (147).
For the Dyersville team, Brent Hinerichsen earned the team medal with a tie-breaker and 150 (77-73) over runner-up Tyler Engelken (78-72). At 152 (78-74) was Mark Wessels, followed by Casey Wachendorf (81-74=155), Larry Olberding (80-78=158), Rex Massey (81-79=160), Todd Steffen (82-81=163), Riley LeGrand (86-78=164), Terry Bockenstedt (81-86=167), Tom Martin (83-84=167) and Jim Alden (87-87=174).
Shawn Deutmeyer earned the Dyersville EIGA Scholarship. The 2020 tourney will be hosted by Monticello. The EIGA Senior Tourney will be played Aug. 24, at Dyersville.
