A game that waited a while to be played became a loss for the Beckman girls basketball team, at the hands of Marion there Feb. 2, 68-42.
The game, made up due to weather difficulties, saw the Indians break to a big first-quarter lead, 20-6. It was 38-18 at half but the Blazers fought back to a 10point difference midway through the third quarter. In the words of coach Chad Thomason, “but it’s hard to keep a very good team like Marion from making shots.”
Thomason went on, “We played extremely well and very hard tonight. I thought we attacked the basket well and we played with a lot of energy. It was another step forward going into districts.” (See story on page 3B.)
Ten Blazers scored, though none of them reached double figures. Tara Hansel led with nine, Sydney Arens eight, Haley LeGrand (one trey) and Sydney Steffen five, Ashley Engelken and Jess Lueken four, Oliva Pirc, Paige McDermott and Keeley Schmitt two, Kristi Bries one. Kayla Laube paced the Indians with 26 (five treys).
