Willenborg scores ace

Ric Willenborg notched his second career hole-in-one July 29 at the Dyersville Golf & Country Club. The ace was the second in a week on the par-three first hole.

Willenborg used an 8-iron from the 147-yard tees. “The ball bounced once, actually about 10 feet directly in front of the hole and rolled right to the pin. When it disappeared, I didn’t believe it for a while, but everybody on the tee with me did,” said Willenborg. “When we got to the green, there was a ball-sized divot 10 feet from the hole.”

He and John Goerdt were talking right before the shot about how tough it is to swing well coming straight to the course from work or wherever. Willenborg took another swing just before the shot, and Goerdt added, “Well if that’s tough, I’d like one.”

He was playing in the Couples Gone Wild League with his wife, Bec, against John and Amy Goerdt.
