A family tradition

Ike Tegeler sits on the one-of-a-kind circus wagon built by his great-great-great-uncle, Isidore “Uncle Ike” Tegeler, July 18, during the Dyersville Area Historical Society’s 30th-anniversary festivities. The elder Tegeler, born in 1890, began his tenure as an entertainer in the 1930s when he started “Uncle Ike’s Dog and Pony Show.” Throughout the years, Tegeler built and drove various circus wagons in local parades and also operated carousels and carnivals for area youth. Tegeler retired around 1965 intending to open a museum.
