The committee charged with filling the Board of Supervisors vacancy left by the death of Tom Hancock are planning to appoint a new supervisor, if possible.

Applications will be taken until noon on Feb. 26, at the elections office in the Dubuque County Auditor’s office or electronically. Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter.

“Anybody should feel free to give any of us a call,” said Dubuque County Treasurer Eric Stierman, one of three officials charged with filling the vacancy. “We’re glad to talk to anybody about it.”

The other members of the board charged with filling the vacancy are Dubuque County Auditor Denise Dolan and Dubuque County Recorder John Murphy.

Instead of appointing, the officials could have chosen to hold a special election, and residents could still petition to hold a special election, within a timeframe of the appointment.

Interviews are tentatively planned for the week of Monday, Feb. 29, and will be open to the public. The committee plans to appoint a new supervisor on

March 7.
