Authorities: Intoxicated driver steals truck in Dubuque, crashes it near Farley

Authorities said an intoxicated driver fled from officers checking a stopped vehicle on U.S. 52/61/151, stole a truck belonging to a nearby business and crashed it into a ditch on U.S. 20 early Sept. 5 near Farley.

Zachary D. Rohr, 38, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested at 1:26 a.m. in Farley on charges of first-degree theft, second-offense operating while intoxicated and interference with official acts.

Court documents state that Dubuque County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a stopped vehicle at 11:04 p.m. Sept. 4 on U.S. 52/61/151 in the area of the twin bridges. A man later identified as Rohr was chasing a female on foot. Upon seeing officers, Rohr jumped the guardrail and fled into a wooded area about 400 yards from Tschiggfrie Excavating, 425 Julien Dubuque Drive.

Officers could not locate Rohr in the wooded area.

At 1:12 a.m. Sept. 5, a Dubuque County deputy and Farley Police responded to U.S. 20 for a report of a Tschiggfrie Excavating truck in a ditch. Documents state that Rohr fled the crash scene on foot and was apprehended in Farley.

Traffic camera footage showed the Tschiggfrie truck leaving the business and driving down an embankment and onto the highway at 11:42 p.m.
