The Beckman Catholic FFA Chapter was named the Champion Team in the annual Iowa FFA Veterinary Science Career Development Event held virtually Oct. 9.

Members of the first-place team included: Kayla Bonert, Jasmyn Hoeger, Maria Schilling and Leah Thier. Their agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Mrs. Dawn Mausser.

The Sheldon FFA Chapter was named the Reserve Champion Team. Members of the second-place team included: Kourtney Dekker, Isabelle Freeman, Gracia Scheaffer, and Alissa Van Beek. Their agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Mr. Jacob Fox. Hannah Franzen, South Winneshiek FFA, Calmar, was named the High Individual Overall in the competition.

FFA teams from 21 chapters participated in this year’s Career Development Event designed to provide students an opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of Veterinary Science. The 83 individuals completed a general knowledge examination focusing on veterinary science. The team members also completed a written scenario and prepared a video focusing on proper veterinary clinical practices.

The Iowa FFA Vet Science CDE was made possible with support from Irvin Meier through the Iowa FFA Foundation.
