The Dubuque County Library District will be reopening to the public Monday, June 1.

For the safety of our staff and library patrons, access and services will initially be limited, and new procedures will be in place. The changes listed here will apply at the Asbury, Epworth, Farley, and Holy Cross Branches of the Dubuque County Library District. Northeast Iowa Community College should be consulted for information about the reopening of the Peosta/NICC Branch.

Hours have been reduced at some branches, allowing for more frequent cleaning. Weekday hours at the Asbury branch will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2-6 p.m. At Epworth, Monday and Wednesday hours will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., other days are unchanged. Farley’s hours will be 3:30-7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 3:30-6 p.m. Fridays. Saturday hours at all locations will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All other hours remain the same.

A variety of measures which are designed to reduce contact, especially prolonged contact, with library staff and other members of the public will be in place. Library staff will wear gloves and masks. All Library visitors are asked to wear masks, which will be provided to patrons without their own. Plexiglass screens have been installed at service desks. Staff will be unable assist visitors at the computers or in the shelves, but can be consulted at the service desk.

The number of patrons allowed in the library at one time will be limited to 10 at Asbury, 6 at Epworth and Farley, and two at Holy Cross. Library users will be asked to complete all of their library business within one hour. The number of computers and chairs available will be reduced to facilitate social distancing.

Curbside holds pickup will be available at the Asbury, Epworth, Farley, and Holy Cross locations during open hours. This process will allow holds pickup which does not require any contact between patrons and staff. When patrons receive notice that their holds will soon be available, they will be asked to call their pick-up location to make an appointment. At the time of their appointment, patrons will park in the indicated location and call the library. Staff will then check out the materials and place them on a table outside the library at Asbury and Epworth or in the vestibule at Farley and Holy Cross. Once the staff member returns inside the library, the patron may collect their holds, and return materials to the exterior book drop.

The library is now accepting returns of library materials in the exterior book drops at the Asbury, Epworth, Farley, and Holy Cross branches. If the book drops are full, return items on another day. Chromebooks and hotspots may not be returned in the book drops. Keep these items until the library reopens and then return to the circulation desk.
