Epworth native and 2016 Western Dubuque High School graduate Kayla Horsfield was recently hired to fill the tourism marketing manager position at the Dyersville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Following high school, she attended the University Northern Iowa where she majored in public relations and special events planning and graduated in December 2019.

After college, she worked as a marketing assistant at the Telegraph Herald.

“I have always loved this community,” Horsfield said, “so being able to work in a place I love and promote it to others was something I could not pass up.”

Since high school, she has wanted to work in the events and tourism field thanks to her leadership teacher, Tom Danner.

“I have always liked the different day to day schedule, and weirdly the stress that may come with it,” Horsfield said. “But, I especially love being able to meet the people you do while in this field and that is something that you can not beat.”

The tourism marketing manager position was something that checked all those boxes for her. A goal she has is to get to know more specific information about the Dyersville area like historic facts and information and chamber members.

Now living in Luxemburg she plans on staying in eastern Iowa for a while.

“I loved college and the experience it gave me while being away from home, but it definitely made me realize I do not want to be anywhere else but here,” she said. “What is so rare about this area is how close the community is with one another. People genuinely care how you are doing and will give you the shirt off their back if you need it. I want my future kids to grow up in an environment and community like this.”

She thinks she has found her career path for years to come.

“Twenty, 30, 40 years from now, I hope I am still doing what I love,” Horsfield said, “and that is planning events and getting to work with this amazing community. And hopefully, married with some kids and living out in the country.”
