Voters elect school board members, decide ballot measures
Area school board races saw incumbents retain seats in Western Dubuque, Maquoketa Valley and Edgewood-Colesburg.
Mike Rea defeated challenger Nicole Stecklein for the District 3 seat at Western Dubuque, 2,351-1,373. Mark Tilson was unopposed for his District 1 seat. Western Dubuque voters approved the adoption of a revenue purpose statement for money the school will receive from the state Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) Fund.
In Edgewood-Colesburg, incumbents Dan Venteicher and Matt Elliot, along with newcomer Brad Bockenstedt were elected to the board. All were running unopposed. The district’s $12 million bonding referendum for building upgrades in the district failed, with 399 voters approving the measure and 342 opposing it. The referendum fell short of the 60% mark for passage with nearly 54% approval.
In Maquoketa Valley, voters elected incumbents Doug Dabroski and Mike Feldmann, along with newcomer Manuel Ricardo Borjorquez to the board. All were running unopposed. District voters also approved the adoption of the revenue purpose statement for SAVE monies by a 395-79 margin.
