I noticed the plaque with the face and name of Colonel Frederick Phelps mounted on a wall in The Meadows, an assisted living facility in Manchester. But until I read his book “Born On The Fifth of July” and interviewed him in his bedroom one afternoon, I had no idea what this man, who loves to joke and tease, had accomplished, or the pain he still carries inside.
