Eugene R. Clancy, 87, of Epworth, passed away on Monday, Sept. 21, at MercyOne Medical Center in Dubuque.
Private graveside services for Eugene will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, at Highview Cemetery in Epworth with Pastor Mike Jones Presiding. Full military honors will be afforded by the Epworth John White American Legion Post #650.
He was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Iowa City, son of Edna Sheriff. On June 12, 1957, he was united in marriage to Amke Kraeft in Bremerhaven, Germany.
He was a career Army man, serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was extremely proud of his military service and all the medals he received, especially the Purple Heart for hostile combat injuries received in Vietnam. He served as an Armored Calvaryman, a MP, a mess sergeant, and an expert marksman. After retiring in 1974, he was employed as a security guard for Permar.
He enjoyed boating, fishing and squirrel hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Amke Clancy of Epworth; one daughter, Angela (Bill) Theisen of Epworth; one daughter-in-law, Katherine Clancy of Epworth; six grandchildren: Tara Streif, Kyle Theisen, Jeff Theisen, Sean Clancy, Brittany Clancy and Ryan Clancy; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Monica Urbain on Jan. 9, 2014, and a son, Michael Clancy on March 22, 2019.
