Lisa Schwarte, 52, of West Des Moines, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Visitation was 6-8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines, with a rosary service at 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, at the church, followed by burial in Resthaven Cemetery.
Lisa was born Oct. 1, 1970, to Robert and Leora (Meyers) Bonert in Dyersville. She grew up on a farm near Dyersville and graduated from Beckman Catholic High School in 1989. Lisa attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated, with honors, with a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1993. Lisa also earned the CPA designation. College is where she met the love of her life, Jeff Schwarte, and the two were married June 8, 1996, at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville.
Lisa worked for Principal Financial Group for many years and was an accountant for Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed her profession, but being a mother to Alex, Megan and Zachary and wife to Jeff were her most treasured roles. She spent many years as a stay-at-home mom and it brought her great joy to cheer on her children during music, academic and athletic events and to be there for all the little moments of their lives.
Lisa’s Catholic faith was at the center of her life. She saw her cancer journey as a beautiful way to receive the love of her community and to surrender to God’s plan. Lisa was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was involved in many groups and organizations within the parish. Always looking for ways to put her faith in action, she loved to help others and give back to the community. Lisa was an avid, early morning runner, enjoyed playing the piano and traveling with her family to Arizona or a warm beach. Lisa loved her cats, being outdoors in her garden and taking care of her flowers.
Lisa is survived by her loving husband, Jeff; her three children, Alex, Megan and Zachary; her parents, Robert and Leora Bonert and brother, Mike Bonert. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Anthony and Anastasia Bonert and maternal grandparents, Camillus and Viola Meyers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lisa’s family to make donations in her name to the many charities she supported over the years.
