Modesta Koerperich, 100, of Dyersville, formerly of Farley, passed away peacefully Oct. 3 at MercyOne Senior Care in Dyersville.
Visitation for Modesta was held 3-7 p.m. Oct. 6, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, with a prayer service held at 2:30 at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Modesta at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 7, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Farley, with Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Eucharisti Minister was Debbie Jasper. Lector was Doug Koerperich. Giftbearers were Deb Schilling and Rina Luensmann. Placing of the pall was done by Eldon and Sue Koerperich, Ellen Koerperich and Paul Ernzen.
Burial was held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Farley.
Casketbearers for Modesta were: Collin Koerperich, Cael Sorum, Duane Luensmann, Marty Ernzen, Josh Ernzen and Tommy Harbaugh.
Modesta was born Sept. 30, 1920 in Rickardsville, daughter of Louis and Margaret (Hess) Freiburger. She received her education from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Rickardsville. On Sept. 30, 1941, she was united in Marriage to Francis J. Koerperich. He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1988. The couple farmed together in the rural Bankston area for many years.
Modesta was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and St. Joseph’s Alter and Rosary Society.
Modesta loved to play bingo with her friends. She was a wonderful and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her son, Eldon (Susan) Koerperich, of Farley; daughter-in-law, Ellen McDermott – Koerperich, of Placid; son-in-law, Paul Ernzen, of Epworth; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Joan Koerperich of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Ronnie Koerperich; her daughter Rose Mary Ernzen; three brothers; five sisters, a sister-in-law; and two grandchildren, Brian and Lori.
