Thomas R. Wild, 60, formerly from Dyersville passed away Dec. 9 from a heart attack while in the hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.
Tom was born Dec. 12, 1958 in Fort Benning, Ga., while his father, John Wild, served in the military. He completed his education in Dyersville and graduated from Beckman High School, class of 1977. Tom relocated to Phoenix, Ariz. after finishing high school.
Tom never married and was fiercely independent. When Tom was 11, he learned how to water ski on Lake Delhi and that set him on a journey to becoming a passionate water skier and bare footer the rest of his life. He competed on a national basis in slalom for a short time in the 1980s and 1990’s and became a world class bare footer able to do all the barefoot maneuvers with ease. He was president of the Phoenix Area Ski Team and became a certified tournament boat driver as well. He estimated that he taught over 200 people how to water ski in his life time. He was still skiing in 2018 with his nephews.
Tom fondly spoke of his days in Dyersville growing up and how much he enjoyed small town life and hanging out with friends he referred to those days as “the social network of the 70’s,” cruising the town and hanging out in the park with friends.
Tom is survived by his Mother Kae, older brother Bob and younger brother Dave, two nephews and four nieces. He is preceded in death by his father John E Wild.
He was three days from his 61st birthday. Rest in Peace Brother.
There is no memorial planned.
