The Western Dubuque baseball and softball teams opened post-season play last week at Farley Park. Getting to that point has not been easy and not without some stops and restarts. Coaches and players deserve a lot of credit for following the rules, keeping each other safe, and being honest when COVID-19 concerns have come up.

Athletic Director Tyler Lown is the hero behind the scenes for making this season happen. He has had to organize and abide by rules set by the state, our conference and our own administration throughout this season to give our kids a chance to play. Organizing three ticket maximums for 150-plus players in both softball and baseball, attending virtually every home game of every level whether it be at 10 a.m. in Peosta or 5:30 p.m. in Farley, and communicating with other schools on a daily basis are just some of the duties added to his responsibilities this year.

Mr. Lown has proven to be a great addition to our school since he has arrived. This year he has shown what going above and beyond is all about. He does it so our kids can do what they love to do and he does it all with integrity. Thank you, Mr. Lown.
