On Feb. 5, 2021, Governor Kim Reynolds lifted the limited mask mandate and social distancing for the state, starting Sunday night, Feb. 7, 2021. Reynolds went on to say, “Iowans are smart people.”

Three Dubuque County supervisors have extended the mask mandate for Dubuque County until mid-June. What evidence are these three supervisors using for their decision? How can county supervisors overrule the governor? Do the county supervisors think the Iowans of Dubuque county are stupid? All fair questions.

When this pandemic started, Dr. Anthony Fauci said masks don’t work, then later changed his mind because, as we were informed, he didn’t want to run out of masks for health care providers. I don’t have a problem if a citizen wants to wear a mask, which is their choice. It is also my choice not to wear a mask. That is what makes America great — freedom. The Dubuque County supervisors should remember this and reconsider their thinking.
