As 2021 comes to an end, those of us at the Rural Community (Dyersville) Food Pantry and Angel Tree program want to take some time to reflect and to express our appreciation to everyone who has helped us in any way this past year.
We were so grateful that 2020 was over and we could begin fresh in 2021, but COVID-19 and the challenges did not leave with 2020.
We are still assisting more households than we have in previous years, and there were times when our shelves were pretty empty. But once again our deep faith and trust in Our Lord that He would help us meet the needs of His people came true.
We do our very best to help feed those in need, not only those in Dyersville but also our surrounding communities. This year, due to the generous donations of those who had extra produce in their gardens and the generosity of area grocery stores and businesses with donations of milk, eggs and other essential foods, we were able to provide extra produce days twice a month during the summer and early fall. The generosity of this wonderful community, the businesses, the schools and its citizens have proven they truly want to help those in need.
This year at Thanksgiving we were able to distribute turkeys/turkey breasts, bread, butter, milk, eggs, potatoes, canned vegetables and desserts to over 150 households. We had banks, schools, FFAs, grocery stores and individuals all donate to this cause.
Then we had our Angel Tree program and Christmas Food Box give-away. With the help of this wonderful community, we were able to provide gifts to over 350 children and food to over 230 households, each receiving two large boxes of food, which included beef roast, ham, milk, butter, eggs, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, plus much more.
We are so grateful for the support that has been given to the Food Pantry and the Angel Tree program. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and may Our Dear Lord bless you and your family in 2022.
