Hello. My name is Luke Maiers and I am a new reporter/photographer with the Dyersville Commercial, Manchester Press and Cascade Pioneer. I will be based out of Dyersville, but will cover the happenings that will take place in the communities surrounding.

I was born and raised in Holy Cross, so I am extremely familiar with the eastern Iowa landscape. I graduated from Western Dubuque High School in 2013, but not before I helped my 2011-12 bowling team win a state championship. Following high school, I continued my education at St. Ambrose University in Davenport. I was initially majoring in Radio/TV Production, but that transitioned to me adding Journalism.

When my education came to an end in 2017, I moved to Charles City to work as the news/sports director for KCHA Radio. Dubuque County called my name about a year later, and I moved back to Holy Cross.

Anyone who knows me, knows what the three most important things are in my life — family, friends and love for sports. I was bred into the Iowa Hawkeye family, and I would have it no other way. Even in my spare time, I have managed to start up my own blog and podcast about the Black and Gold. I take any chance I can get to talk or debate about the Iowa Hawkeyes.

I have one final note I would like to add. I have a very large, extended family. Between both the Maiers and Heiberger sides of my family, they total well over 100 people. I am constantly looking forward to my next family gathering because they are usually some of my favorite days of the year.

I am excited to learn more about the people of the small, area communities, and I look forward to telling the stories that deserve to be told. If you have an interesting story, shoot me an email at: luke.maiers@wcinet.com.
