Maquoketa Valley’s boys’ track and field team finished third at Monticello, April 22, where AJ Ambundo led the team with three first-place finishes. He won the high jump with a height of 5-9, teamed with Cy Huber, Nolan Ries and Michael Schaul to win the 4x400-meter relay in 3:34.4 and in the sprint medley, joined Devante Strickland, Huber and Schaul for the top spot in 1:44.40.

Huber finished second in the 800 (2:08.20).

A pair of Wildcats placed in the discus — Brock Trenkamp second (129-3) and Devin Smith fourth (117-2). In the shot, Smith was third (41-9.5) and Trenkamp sixth (40-9).

In the 3,200, Ries was second (10:35.4) and Mitch Heims fifth (11:37.70).

Ambundo placed second in the 200 (23.60) and Domarius Strickland sixth (25.90).

MV was fourth in two relays: 4x200 — Preston Roling, Ethan Doyl, Ries and Trenkamp (1:43.5); and 4x800 — Doyl, Roling, George Livingston and Jesus Rumbo (10:22.4).

Landon Deutmeyer placed fifth in the 400 (1:00).

The Wildcats were fifth in two relays: 4x100 — Jamie Pitts, Devante Strickland, Devin Meeks and Roling (49.7); and sprint medley —Deutmeyer, Meeks, Schaul and Devante Strickland (1:44.4).

Monticello won its own meet with 144 points. Center Point-Urbana was second (104), MV third (90), North Cedar fourth (87), North Linn fifth (79), Springville sixth (32), East Buchanan seventh (24) and Central City eighth (23).
