Beckman dance team coach Kaylee Ungs enters her final year at the helm with high expectations for her small crew.

She floors five seniors, Annie Gulick, Val Meyer, McKenna Milbert, Emma Oberbroeckling and Paige Ungs as well as sophomore Izzy Lutgen. The six are polishing their routines for the Iowa State Dance/Drill Team Association’s state competition, slated for Dec. 1-2 at Wells Fargo in Des Moines.

Paige Ungs will compete with her solo “Top of the World” Wednesday, Dec. 1.

The Blazers will showcase their pom routine Thursday, Dec. 2 to the tune “I Just Wanna Dance with Somebody” at 8:24 a.m. They will compete in Class VI Pom against Woodward-Granger, West Sioux, Aplington-Parkersburg, Treynor, Emmetsburg, Waterloo Columbus, Western Christian, Eagle Grove, Wilton, Louisa-Muscatine and East Sac County.

Thursday afternoon, their hip hop routine will take the floor to “Airplanes” at 2:35 p.m. The Blazers will be competing in Class IV Hip Hop against Central Decatur, Van Buren, Woodward-Granger, Western Christian, Cascade, West Sioux, West Central Valley, Ridge View, Underwood and Waterloo Columbus.

“This is my fourth and final year as coach,” added Ungs. “I took this on four years ago to bring dance back to Beckman. I am so happy that I got to take this awesome ride with this group of girls. They have so much to be proud of on and off the dance floor. Four of the seniors have been with me all four years and we were lucky enough to have McKenna join this year. I will miss these girls so much, including all the fun we’ve had for four years.”

Coach Ungs added they are having their annual kids camp Saturday, Dec. 11. The season will conclude with the Blazers’ Dance Off Sunday, Dec. 12 She asks that interested parties come and support the team as they perform their state routines that day.
