Home course advantage did not exist for the Beckman girls team, May 17, in their Class 2A regional tournament at the Dyersville Golf & Country Club.
The Blazers ended in sixth place in the eight-team meet and none of their individuals qualified to advance to the regional final May 24 in West Liberty, effectively ending their season.
In the team race, it was Anamosa at 412 and Tipton at 417 who earned the right to further compete. West Branch was third at 419, Wilton fourth 421, followed by Northeast 428, BHS 431, Cascade 455 and Camanche 506.
Shea Steffen paced the girls with 102 (51-51), just two strokes away from qualifying among the top six who will move on as individuals. Steffen tripled the par-4 ninth hole, playing as the 18th, ending any hope of advancing. Maddie Schmitz added 104 (51-53), Maddy Kruse 112 (55-57) and Jami Kruse 113 (46-57).
The individual qualifiers include Ali Nash of Tipton 92, Savannah Sexton of West Branch 96, Joann Martin of Wilton 97, Lexah Miller and Madeline Nemmers of Anamosa 98 and Cecilia Venenga, also of Anamosa, 100.
Coach Jim Sheston added, “This has been an up-and-down season and today was one of the downs. It was the first taste of playoffs for the younger players. Hopefully, they will use the disappointment as motivation for their upcoming activities.”
