Western Dubuque had another solid week on the links, winning a four-team Mississippi Valley Conference meet, at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City, Sept. 20, before finishing a strong fourth at the Cedar Falls Invitational the following day.

The Bobcats fired a 160 at Pleasant Valley to outdistance Cedar Rapids Xavier at 167. Iowa City High was third at 187 and Waterloo East fourth at 217.

Brock Wilson was the individual medalist with a round of 37 and Jackson Webber was second at 40. Jackson Skrtich tied for third with Xavier’s Charlie Allen and Ryan Schmit with 41, while Davis Stelzer was in at 42. Tyler Skrtich was at 44, Carson Schute 51 and Nolan Vaske 52.

“We had a really good week starting with the three wins in Iowa City,” said coach Ben Wilson. “Brock came in as medalist and we beat Xavier by seven strokes and they are ranked in front of us.”

Western Dubuque’s fourth-place finish in a loaded field at the Cedar Falls Invitational is just what the doctor ordered heading to the final weeks of the season.

“At the CF Invitational, we really battled and beat Marshalltown and Washington,” Wilson said. “Those are two teams we need to beat, along with Xavier, in the district meet.”

Waukee won a fifth-man tiebreaker with Cedar Falls to take top honors at 302. CR Prairie was third at 313 and the Bobcats were right behind at 317. Waukee Northwest was fifth at 320 and CR Washington sixth at 320.

Linn-Mar was at 322, CR Jefferson 326, Iowa City Liberty 328, Dubuque Senior 340, Muscatine 342, Dubuque Hempstead 364 and Waterloo East 389.

Individually, Owen Sawyer of Cedar Falls was the top finisher at 70, while Tanner Dinnebier, of Waukee and Caden Postma, of Linn-Mar, tied for second at 73.

Stelzer tied for 11th with a 77 to lead Western Dubuque. Tyler Skrtich was 15th at 78, Webber and Wilson scored 81, Jackson Skrtich 83 and Vaske 98.

“We are starting to play our best golf at the right time in the season,” said Wilson. “I am excited for next week to see if we can play better at Hunter’s Ridge and then the Dubuque G and CC on Thursday.”
