The Western Dubuque wrestling team recorded five pins and a technical fall on its way to a 53-21 victory over Cedar Rapids Xavier in their Mississippi Valley Conference dual meet held at Cedar Rapids, Jan. 9.
Ben Schueller (120), Corbin Collins-Patzner (126), Trent Busch (145), Levi Burds (152) and Carter Kluesner (170) earned the pins for the Bobcats with Schueller having the quickest pin in 38 seconds. Jake Hosch (182) picked up a technical fall winning, 20-5, in 4:34.
“They got us in a couple of weights, but that’s wrestling. You have to be ready every time you put your foot on the tape and we’ll just use that to hopefully get better for competition this week,” said Paul Cleary, head coach of the Bobcats.
“As always, we will continue to work on our strengths to get them stronger and then you have to make your weaknesses less weak. Our goal is to work harder than every other team so that we’re in better shape than every other team so we can push the pace the entire match,” he added.
The dual started with Jagger McCool (106) earning the Bobcats’ first points of the match by forfeit. Schueller’s win started a three-weight class run for the Bobcats as they took control of the dual and cruised to victory.
Joseph Gamblin (132) and Jonathan Savolt (285) also put points on the board for the Bobcats with wins by forfeit.
