Western Dubuque’s boys’ track and field team competed in five events at the 2021 Drake Relays, in Des Moines, April 22, getting a taste of the big stage with the State Co-Ed Meet right around the corner.
“Drake Relays was a wonderful experience for the athletes and only made them hungrier to perform well in May,” said coach Tom Jasper.
Logan Brosius competed in four events — two individual and two relays — and his eighth-place finish in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.5 seconds was Western Dubuque’s best finish of the day.
Brosius leaped 18-6.75 to finish 21st in the long jump, while Dakota Hoffman — the Bobcats’ other individual qualifier — was 19th in the shot put with a heave of 49-1.75.
Mitchell Ashline, Devin Neuhaus, Tommy DeSollar and Brosius had an impressive effort in the shuttle hurdle relay with a 10th-place finish in 1:02.31 while Spencer Zinn, Ashline, DeSollar and Brosius crossed the line in 44.59 to finish 31st in the 4x100.
The Bobcats will be in action at Dubuque Senior April 27, and Kingston Stadium, in Cedar Rapids, May 1.
“The next couple of weeks are pivotal for competition and training,” Jasper said.
