The Western Dubuque boys’ tennis team lost three Mississippi Valley Conference matches last week, losing at Linn-Mar, 9-0, April 22, before hosting Waterloo West and Cedar Falls, April 24. The Bobcats lost to Waterloo West, 6-3, and to Cedar Falls, 9-0.

Against Linn-Mar, the Bobcats could push only one match to a third set, the No. 6 singles match between Will Lopez and Samuel Vint. Lopez won the opening set, 7-5, but Vint responded, winning the second set, 6-2, and the deciding set, 1-0 (12-10).

Michael Kemp lost, 6-0, 6-0, to Ayush Kalia at No. 1 singles, while Brayden Wickham lost at No. 2 singles to Brock Hanna, 6-0, 6-1. Kayden Singh lost 6-0, 6-0 to Malcolm Rice at No. 3 singles. Hunter Kamp fell to Max Wolfe, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles, Blake Wickham lost to Jackson Kramer, 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles action, Kemp and Brayden Wickham lost to Arwind Sivakumar and Sudeep Gadde, 6-1, 6-0, while Singh and Kamp lost to Rice and Camden Foster at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Blake Wickham and Lopez were 6-3, 6-3 victims to Max Wolfe and Brent Kaliban at No. 3 doubles.

Against Waterloo West, the Bobcats won two singles matches and a doubles match. Singh won at No. 4 singles over Camden Schneider. Singh lost the opening set to Schneider, 6-2, then won the next two, 6-3 and 10-5. At No. 6 singles, Blake Wickham defeated Cole Jennings in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.

Kemp lost to Will Klabunde at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4, while Hermsen lost to Nick Kacer-Reynolds at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Brayden Wickham fell to Connor Heuthorst at No. 3 singles, 6-6 (7-5), 6-0. At No. 5 singles, Lopez won the opening set over Jackson Schmidt, 6-1, before losing the next two, 6-3, 14-12.

Hermsen and Brayden Wickham earned a win at No. 2 doubles over Schneider and Schmidt, with the match going to a third set. The Bobcat duo won the first set, 6-3, before losing the second, 6-2. They claimed the match with a 10-6 win in the third.

At No. 1 doubles, Kemp and Blake Wickham lost to Klabunde and Kacer-Reynolds, 6-6 (9-7), 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, Lopez and Singh lost the first set, 6-3 to Heuthorst and Jennings, then came back to win the second 6-4. But the Wahawks pair won the third set, 10-7.

Against Cedar Falls, the Bobcats were unable to extend any matches to a third set.

Kemp lost to Neel Shah in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0, while Hermsen fell at No. 2 singles to Pranav Chandra, 6-0, 6-0. Brayden Wickham lost to Param Sampat, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Singh fell to Sai Pranav Kota, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Blake Wickham lost his No. 5 singles match to Ryan Venem, 6-0, 6-1, while Kamp lost to Akshat Mehta, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

In doubles play, Brayden Wickham and Singh lost at No. 1 doubles to Shah and Chandra, 6-1, 6-1, while Kamp and Jagger McCool lost to Sampat and Pranav Kota, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Venem and Mehta defeated Blake Wickham and Adam Hayes, 6-0, 6-0.
