Mississippi Valley Conference heavyweights Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids Washington grabbed the top two spots in a quadrangular golf meet, at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course, in Cedar Falls, Sept. 9. Western Dubuque was third and Iowa City West fourth.
Cedar Falls, led by meet medalist Owen Sawyer’s 35 and runner-up Max Tjoa’s 37, topped the field with a team tally of 149 while Washington had three players break 40 — Ben Blocklinger and Zach Brown at 38 and Nile Peterson with 39 — on the way to a team score of 156 to take second.
Western Dubuque was led by freshman Brock Wilson’s 38, and finished at 162, while West got home in 173.
“We played OK, but that is not going to be good enough against Cedar Falls and CR Washington,” said coach Ben Wilson.
Davis Stelzer and Tyler Skrtich shot 41 on the always challenging Pheasant Ridge layout, and Brayden Webber was the Bobcats’ fourth scorer at 42. Jackson Webber finished at 46 and Brayden Staner 51.
“I am really encouraged three of the four scores we used were from freshmen,” said Wilson. “They have been playing well and Brock is getting into his stride with a 38. We know we can play better and will need to rebound in our divisional at Hunter’s Ridge.”
