Max Naumann became the third Western Dubuque golfer to take medalist honors this season, firing a four-over-par 39, leading the Bobcats to a quadrangular win at Jones Park Golf Course, in Cedar Rapids, Sept. 5.

The Bobcats were able to win the meet on a day when they were not at the top of their game, according to coach Ben Wilson.

“It is great to win when we aren’t playing our best golf,” he said. “The kids had to fight through some tough holes.”

Western Dubuque’s team tally of 169 was good enough to top runner-up Iowa City Liberty at 175, Waterloo West at 182 and host Cedar Rapids Jefferson at 190.

Jax Stelzer was close behind Naumann for the Bobcats, firing a 41 on a day when the golf course was probably a tough place to be.

“Jax played through an illness, but he stayed with it and finished strong,” said Wilson.

Davis Stelzer’s 44 was next in line, with Karson Skrtich scoring at 45, Casey Perrenoud 46, Curtis McGrane 49 and Mike Kraft 54.

The Bobcats will be back in action at the University of Iowa’s Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Thursday, Sept. 12, in a four-team meet hosted by Iowa City West.
