In a warm-up for their Regional meet May 24, the Western Dubuque girls’ golf team won a quadrangular at Thunder Hills, May 20, with a 368-373-378-416 advantage over Wahlert, Hempstead and Dubuque Senior.
The Bobcats took advantage of home course knowledge and got a runner-up medalist total of 87 (43-44) from Hannah Fangmann, 88 (43-45) from McKenna Stackis, 94 (47-47) from Ella Kluesner and 99 (44-55) from Hanna Kluesner for the win. Gabi Fagerlind and Addy Jones did not count with 102 and 103.
Wahlert counted 88 from Anna Klab, 89 from Katelyn Vaasen, 92 from Ava Kalb and 109 from Bree Buxton. Hempstead got a meet-low 83 from Morgan Hawkins, 90 from Emma Daughetee, 102 from Ava Swenson and 103 from Carleigh Hodgson. Senior was a distant fourth with Kylie Felderman’s 98, Paige Lewis’ 103, Mya Beau’s 107 and Olivia Duschen’s 108.
Coach Amy Haldeman added, “Conditions were tough and windy. The scores were not our best, especially on our home course. We played just well enough to win. We will forget the scores we didn’t like and move on to districts Monday (May 24).
“I was glad to see Hannah get runner-up. She will be able to take some confidence into Monday.”
