An eight-man team from the Dyersville Golf & Country Club won its second WaMaC Cup following play Sept. 12 at home. The win was the second for the team since their four-year involvement in the organization, begun in 2018, the same year they won their first Cup at Pin Oak.

The team shot 431 to top runner-up River Ridge, of Independence, by 14 strokes, 445. Another stroke back was Winthrop at 446, followed by Pin Oak 451, Jesup 459, Hart Ridge 464, Hickory Grove of Oelwein 478 and Vinton 518.

Chance Maiers paced the home team with a 66 that included a stellar 29 on the back nine (four birdies and one eagle). He tied for low with two players, Chris Cooksley, of Winthrop, and Travis Kress, of River Ridge. The three played off in sudden death, with Cooksley getting the win.

Other scores for the DGCC team included Justin Weber 70 (34-36), Larry Olberding 73 (34-39), Tom Martin and Mark Wessels 74 (37-37), Tyler Engelken 74 (35-39), Brent Hinerichsen 75 (38-37) and Matt Schmitz 76 (38-38). The low six scores are counted for the team tally.

Low for Pin Oak was Mark Guetzko 71, for Hart Ridge Elias Tibbott and Zack Weber 74, Winthrop Jared Bucknell 74, Hickory Grove Levi Nuss 73 and Vinton Rick Murphy 82.

The flag event (closest to pin on drive) on No. 3 was won by Wessels, though Olberding took the skin for that hole by making a 25-foot putt. Two other skins went to Maiers with an eagle on No. 6 and Andy Thomas, of River Ridge with a birdie on No. 11.
