Maquoketa Valley’s wrestling team traveled to Edgewood-Colesburg, Jan. 9, and won nine out of their 12 matches in a double dual despite losing to Alburnett, 48-26, and Ed-Co, 39-21.
“We started believing in what we are doing in the practice room, as well in ourselves. Winning nine out of our 12 matches was a good start after the holiday break,” coach Kurt Hatfield commented.
When facing Alburnett, Tanner DeMoss (160), Evan Elgin (182) and Carter Kruse (195) all won by fall. Schaul (138) bested his opponent with a 6-4 decision.
Tim Harmon (170) won by a 17-1 technical fall in 3:38. Dylan Lane (132) lost by pin. MV forfeited at 220, 285, 106, 113, 126, 145, and 152.
MV faced Ed-Co last on the night, and saw Kruse, Schaul and Elgin win by fall. Lane received a 13-6 victory by decision. DeMoss lost by fall. Harmon lost a close 5-4 decision. MV forfeited at 106, 113, 126, 145, and 152.
