Maquoketa Valley’s cross country team competed at both the West Delaware and North Linn invitationals, recording a sixth and fifth-place team finish for the boys’ varsity last week.
The Wildcats led off the week at the West Delaware Invitational where the boys’ placed sixth in the 20-team field.
Cy Huber was MV’s lead runner with a seventh-place finish in 16:32. Nolan Ries 14th (17:08), Michael Schaul 25th (17:25), Matthew Schaul 65th (18:28) and Arion Rave 64th (18:33) rounded out the scoring five. George Livingston was 66th (18:34) and Toby Grimm 110th (19:41).
Tipton finished first in the boys’ varsity competition with 57 points. Western Dubuque was second (122), Mount Vernon-Lisbon third (137), Clear Lake fourth (145), Waverly-Shell Rock fifth (148), Maquoketa Valley sixth (169), Oelwein seventh (172), Center Point-Urbana eighth (233), Jesup ninth (252), Cedar Rapids Xavier 10th (278), Starmont 11th (303), Anamosa 12th (304), North Fayette Valley 13th (330), Cascade 14th (351), West Delaware 15th (376), Vinton-Shellsburg 16th (409), East Buchanan 17th (489), Alburnett 18th (508), Maquoketa 19th (542), Beckman 20th (547) and Independence 21st (557).
Isabel Imler raced to fourth in the junior varsity girls’ competition in 22:28. McKenna Bush was 64th (25:59), Allison Hogan 87th (27:09) and Jordan Hogan 104th (27:55).
In the junior varsity boys’ race, Landin Frasher finished 37th (20:14), Caleb Livingston 51st (20:39), Brady Eike 69th (21:04) and Sebastian Charles 158th (29:21).
The Wildcats closed out the week with a fifth-place finish in the 18-team North Linn Invitational, Oct. 9.
Marion won the boys’ varsity title with 47 points. Tipton was second (90), Solon third (94), Williamsburg fourth (129), MV fifth (159), Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck sixth (165), Washington seventh (180), Iowa City Regina eighth (217), Starmont ninth (234), Benton Community 10th (272), Hudson 11th (278), North Linn 12th (329), Clayton Ridge 13th (330), Clear Lake 14th (376), Alburnett 15th (386), Edgewood-Colesburg 16th (470), Independence 17th (501) and Midland 18th (519).
Huber led the Wildcats around the course, finishing fifth in 16:46. Ries 16th (17:20), Michael Schaul 23rd (17:41), Matthew Schaul 54th (18:40) and Rave 62nd (18:58) were the scoring five. Grimm and Frasher placed 90th (20:13) and 91st (20:19).
Imler finished seventh in the junior varsity girls’ race in 22:33. Bush placed 55th (27:06), Allison Hogan 58th (27:58) and Jordan Hogan 66th (28:37).
Livingston was 36th in the boys’ junior varsity competition in 20:46, Eike 51st (21:44) and Charles 100th (32:31).
Taryn Burbridge raced to first place in the middle school girls’ race. She finished the two-mile course in 12:57. Haydin Flannagan placed 41st (16:49) and Emily Rudd 52nd (18:39).
