Maquoketa Valley boys’ basketball team earned its third win of the season with a 51-41 victory over East Buchanan, Dec. 20, at home.
“As a team, we got back to playing the style of basketball that we want to play. We came out of the locker room much better before the game and that was a focus for us. We shot the ball much better than we had in previous games as well so that allowed us to have a nice strong start,” coach Eric Conner said.
The Wildcats have struggled in the second half of most games this year, with three of their losses being just three points or less.
“We made a few minor adjustments to our zone defense at halftime, but for the most part, we just wanted to try to duplicate the first half that we had,” Conner added. “I was happiest with seeing our guys getting back to our style of basketball again. It was a tough three-game stretch just for the fact that we had players not playing confident and we got it taken to us by other teams that we feel we should have beaten.”
