MV’s Avery Holtz lays in a basket against Central City, Dec. 21.

Maquoketa Valley defeated Central City in Tri-Rivers Conference boys’ basketball action, 65-37, at Delhi, Dec. 21. With the win, MV goes into break 5-3.

The Wildcats led 14-6 at the quarter and 33-18 at halftime. Despite the lead, coach Eric Conner said his team needed a better effort on defense.

Conner said the win sends a positive message heading into the break.

“I can’t say enough about the extra pep a win gives everyone. The attitude of going into a break after a win is good for both coaches and players.”
