MV’s Emma Doyl anchors the distance medley relay at the West Delaware Early Bird, April 1.

Maquoketa Valley’s girls’ track and field team opened the season with a 10th-place finish at the West Delaware Early Bird, April 1.

MV’s 4x100 team of Lily Huber, Leah Ries, Emma Richter and McKenna Thompson finished second (55.81).

The Wildcat sprint medley squad of Kacy Williams, Hope Meyer, Adeline Bowman and Reece Kuhlman recorded a third-place finish (2:01.83).

Ries, Caelyn Sands, Thompson and Kendra Hillers raced to fourth in the shuttle hurdle relay (1:19.85).

In the 100-hurdles, Ries placed fourth (17.87) and Hillers sixth (19.13).

The Wildcats 4x200 crew of Amaya Hunt, Richter, Sands and Huber finished fourth (2:01.49.)

Erin Knipper placed sixth in the shot put (31-0).

In the discus, Paige Winter was seventh (79-10) and Maddyx Kemp eighth (79-1).

Jordan Hogan and Ella Mensen tied for eighth in the high jump (4-4).

Independence earned the team title with 72 points. Central Elkader was second (69), Maquoketa third (67), Lisbon fourth (64), Kee fifth (52), West Delaware sixth (51), Starmont seventh (50), Oelwein eighth (46), Beckman ninth (40), Maquoketa Valley 10th (30), Clayton Ridge 11th (24) and Easton Valley 12th (21).
