Maquoketa Valley’s girls’ basketball team now stands at 15-3 after battling last week. The Wildcats opened the week at home, Jan. 28, with a 47-37 loss to North Linn, but rebounded with a road win over Central City.
In the North Linn game, MV started slow, scoring no points in the first quarter. The second quarter turned completely around for the Wildcats, which saw them score 11 to North Linn’s eight. At halftime, the Lynx held a 20-11 advantage. MV battled in the third and bettered North Linn, 16-10, to pull the game within three, 30-27. The Lynx pulled away in the fourth, outscoring MV, 17-10 to seal the win.
On Friday, MV earned a 48-28 victory over Central City on the road.
Taya Tucker had a big game, leading MV with 21 points and 14 rebounds.
The Wildcats’ leaders against Central City were: scoring — Tucker 21, Brooke Elgin 19, Ella Imler four, Kennedy Rausch three and Carissa Sabers one; rebounds — Tucker 14, Elgin nine, Sabers and Imler five; assists — Imler six; Steals Tucker four, Imler and Elding three; blocks — Elgin one.
