It was a banner day for the Maquoketa Valley dance team Dec. 1 as the team brought home three Division I ratings in addition to other awards at the Iowa State Dance/Drill Team Association’s state competition in Des Moines.

The Wildcats finished fifth in Class III Hip Hop with 325.5 points and a Division I rating for the performance of “Venom.”

West Fork won with 354 points, with North Union second with 345 and Missouri Valley third with (340.5). Next were AGWSR (335), Maquoketa Valley, Westwood (312), Tri-Center and North Cedar (311), Lawton-Bronson (306.5) and West Monona (303.5).

The team finished 10 in Class IV Pom with their performance of “Groove in the Heart,” earning a Division I rating with 312 points.

West Fork claimed first in the category with 353.5 points, with AGWSR next with 343. Third place went to Pleasantville with 342.5, followed by Colfax-Mingo (335), Alburnett (334), North Cedar (328), Grundy Center (322.5), Missouri Valley (316.5), Lawton-Bronson (312.5), Maquoketa Valley, West Monona (309.5) and Southwest Valley (284).

Maddyx Rieniets earned a Division I rating in her solo performance, “Shake the Room.”

The team also received a distinguished academic award for a team grade point average between 3.5-4.0, as well as a community service award.

“We had an amazing day at Wells Fargo,” coach Jennifer Teymer said. “I couldn’t be prouder of the girls.”
