A trio of first-place finishes led Maquoketa Valley’s boys’ track and field team at the West Delaware Early Bird, March 30.

AJ Ambundo took first in the high jump (5-4), was fourth in the 100 (12.2) and 200 (24.27).

The 4x200-meter relay team of Davante Strickland, Cy Huber, Nolan Ries and Michael Schaul raced to first in 1:37.09. In the 4x800, Huber, Ries, Schaul and Ethan Doyl ran to first place in 8:46.43.

MV’s 4x400 crew of Strickland, Huber, Ries and Schaul finished second in 3:42.87.

In the discus, Brock Trenkamp was fourth (121-6) and Devin Smith fifth (120-2).

Mitch Heims was fifth in the 3,200 (11:55.9).

Doyl finished eighth in the 1,600 (5:35.76).

Lisbon won the boys’ team title with 128 points. Independence was second (108), Waverly-Shell Rock third (86), Edgewood-Colesburg fourth (80), Maquoketa Valley fifth (54), West Delaware sixth (46), Hudson seventh (38), Oelwein eighth (35) and Central Elkader ninth (13).
