A pair of ranked North Linn basketball teams gave Maquoketa Valley a rough start to the new year as the Lynx won both ends of the doubleheader played in Troy Mills, Jan. 3.

In the opener, North Linn’s third-ranked girls’ team defeated eighth-ranked Maquoketa Valley, 70-41.

North Linn, which brought a 6-1 record into the game, seemed to know how to stop MV’s high powered offense and shut down its defense.

In the boys’ game, No. 3 North Linn easily defeated Maquoketa Valley, 88-37.

North Linn was able to jump out to a 26-8 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Lynx bettered the Wildcats, 25-11, in the second for a 51-19 halftime lead.

The Lynx outscored Maquoketa Valley, 24-13, in the third and 13-5 in the fourth to seal the Tri-Rivers Conference win.
